Types Of Mesothelioma |
Mesothelioma is caused due to the long term exposure of the individuals to Asbestos. ‘Mesothelioma’ – the whole term is derived from the word Mesothelium. Mesothelium is a protective layer that lines the internal body organs. Malignancy of the Mesothelial cells starts with the entering of Asbestos in the Mesothelium cells. Mesothelium is essentially divided in the following layers based on the region where it lines the internal body organs:-
- Pleural Mesothelium – The lining of Mesothelium around the lungs. Malignancy of the Pleural Mesothelium cells is termed as Pleural Mesothelioma.
- Pericardial Mesothelium – The lining of Mesothelium around the Heart. Malignancy of the Pericardial Mesothelium cells is termed as Pericardial Mesothelioma.
- Peritoneal Mesothelium – The lining of Mesothelium around the Gastro-intestinal tract is called as Peritoneal Mesothelium. Malignancy of Peritoneal Mesothelium is called as Peritoneal Mesothelioma.
- Tunica Vaginalis – The lining of Mesothelium around the Testicles is called as Tunica Vaginalis. Malignancy of the same is called as Testicular Mesothelioma.
